Tropos exists to help people make better decisions about landscapes. We therefore have a responsibility to examine the environmental cost of our own technology and operations as carefully as the outcomes we seek to support.

Our commitment

Tropos will consider environmental responsibility throughout product design, research, procurement, field operations and business decisions. We will seek practical reductions in avoidable impact while recognising that drones, computing, travel, batteries and equipment all carry environmental costs.

This is a statement of direction and responsibility, not a claim that Tropos is carbon neutral, net zero or environmentally impact-free.

Evidence before environmental claims

Potential benefits—such as fewer repeat visits, more targeted inspection, reduced blanket intervention or better use of inputs—must not be presented as proven outcomes without suitable measurements and context.

Where Tropos reports an environmental benefit, we aim to state the baseline, method, scope, uncertainty and limitations so that the claim can be inspected rather than accepted on trust.

Responsible field operations

Flight and field work should be planned to minimise unnecessary disturbance to wildlife, habitats, livestock, soils, water and neighbouring land users. Legal permission and operational safety do not, by themselves, establish that an activity is environmentally appropriate.

Site-specific controls, seasonal sensitivities and the judgement of land managers and relevant specialists remain important. A responsible person retains authority to postpone, adapt or stop work.

Technology, equipment and resources

We will consider energy use, data retention and computing requirements when designing analytical workflows. Data should be retained because it has a governed purpose—not simply because storage is available.

Where practical, Tropos will favour durable, maintainable equipment; responsible battery care; repair and reuse; consolidated travel; and lawful recycling or disposal of electronic equipment and consumables.

Products that support proportionate action

SilvaSense™, AgriSense™, Operations™ and Field™ are designed to preserve context and help authorised people target attention more precisely. That direction may support more proportionate surveying, inspection, treatment or intervention, but the outcome depends on the use case and evidence.

Tropos will not treat a digital map, model output or drone operation as automatically beneficial. Human review, local knowledge and comparison with appropriate alternatives remain essential.

As Tropos activity grows, we intend to develop measurable indicators covering areas such as travel, field activity, equipment, energy, data storage and evidenced project outcomes. We will review this statement as better information becomes available.
