About Tropos

A veteran-founded, multidisciplinary team building carefully for complex landscapes.

Tropos Analytics brings together Armed Forces experience, platform engineering, forestry practice and field drone operations around a shared commitment to evidence-led environmental decisions.

01

How Tropos began

Tropos did not begin with a portfolio diagram or a plan to build another AI platform. It began with practical questions in forestry, agriculture and drone operations: what was actually happening on the ground, what evidence could be trusted and how that evidence could support a defensible human decision.

Work around SilvaSense™ and practical field trials showed that analysis was only one part of the answer. Reliable outcomes also depend on the client requirement, competent people, maintained equipment, authorised work, field provenance, validation and clear human authority. Operations™, Field™, Intelligence™, AgriSense™ and Assistant™ grew from those connected needs.

That experience continues to drive Tropos: building environmental intelligence from the work outward and preserving the evidence chain from landscape observation to accountable action.

  • Practical questions first
  • Built from field and operational need
  • Evidence before claims
  • Accountable human decisions

02

Veteran-founded

Tropos Analytics is veteran-founded. Barry Jones served in the Royal Corps of Transport as a Tank Transporter Driver from 1976 to 1982. Jack Jones later joined the Royal Artillery with the intention of pursuing Watchkeeper unmanned-aircraft operations.

That direct experience informs the company’s emphasis on service, preparation, teamwork, traceable responsibility and accountable human decisions. Tropos has submitted an Armed Forces Covenant pledge; signatory status will be stated only after official confirmation.

03

Barry Jones · Platform engineering and governance

Barry is a director of Tropos Analytics and leads platform engineering. He served in the Royal Corps of Transport as a Tank Transporter Driver from 1976 to 1982, and later built more than 30 years of experience in enterprise systems and SAP architecture. He also holds an MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering from the University of Leeds Institute for Transport Studies.

His role is to turn the company’s evidence principles into a governed, traceable platform that can support real operational work.

04

Iurii Adam · Forestry domain leadership

Iurii is a director of Tropos Analytics, a forestry graduate and the company’s forestry domain lead. He brings more than eight years of experience across commercial forest nurseries and public-sector forestry.

His practical knowledge helps keep product design, validation and interpretation grounded in forestry practice. He has been accepted onto the MSc Remote Sensing and GIS at Aberystwyth University, beginning in September 2026.

05

Jack Jones · Drone and field operations

Jack began building and flying drones at the age of 12. He later joined the Royal Artillery intending to pursue Watchkeeper unmanned-aircraft operations before taking a different route into practical land and drone work.

His field experience includes tree-felling work with a National Grid line-clearance crew and work on tree-planting crews. He has also completed specialist heavy-lift drone spraying training with AutoSpray.

  • Practical drone-building and flying experience
  • Tree-felling and utility line-clearance experience
  • Tree-planting crew experience
  • Specialist heavy-lift drone spraying training

06

Operational competence

Barry Jones, Iurii Adam and Jack Jones each hold a General VLOS Certificate. Iurii and Jack have completed AutoSpray’s specialist heavy-lift drone spraying course.

Tropos Analytics also holds a current PDRA01 Operational Authorisation. These credentials support competent operations; they do not imply autonomous-flight approval, general product availability or unattended operational decision-making.

07

How the team works

Across the team, we favour traceable evidence over inflated claims, controlled development over premature availability and accountable human judgement over unattended decision-making.

Engineering, forestry knowledge and field experience are brought together so that technical capability remains connected to the landscapes, evidence and people it is intended to support.
